Hello!
As a multidisciplinary artist established in Frelighsburg, I initiated this collective video project to open the taboo of experiencing sincere joy in face of our own reflection on screen, as we can express it without forcing in front of a friend.
Since the relationship to the mirror is problematic for a significant part of the population, I like to see art as having the power to propose, to embody a new kind of relationship to oneself that we will be happy to leave to future generations.
To try the experience and perhaps join the project if you like what results...
1. Set a 5-minutes timer and film your face horizontally looking at your eyes on the screen, even if the context makes your reflection appear to be looking to the side.
2. Relax your face, don't try to smile, open your mouth, welcome the emotion that is there without judging it, as if it were another person close to you.
3. Get closer to the screen to create a sense of intimacy.
4. Go around your face as needed, trying not to judge its appearance, replace/adjust what you want, and return to your eyes. Choose one eye and keep your focus on it while continuing to blink to keep the image clear.
5. Lower your chin to make sure your face is parallel to the screen, so that your eyelids will open naturally without having to force.
6. Stretch your jaw to relax it.
7. Gently inhale and exhale air through your mouth, without pursing your lips and by opening the back of your throat so as to remove the friction that is usually expressed by the sound of your breath. Aim to achieve complete silence that creates a coolness and a feeling of fullness in your throat. Pay attention to the changing sensation in your body rather than seeking joy.
8. Maintain these steps until the end of 5 minutes or longer. If you feel the spontaneous impulse to smile or laugh, do not hold back and try to maintain visual contact with your eye without being shy to see your face in joy. You can then name what you feel, what is present for you. If you don't feel waves of joy during the first experience, you can repeat it as often as you want.
If you feel the waves of joy and like your video, you can send it to me at marcantoine.vermette@protonmail.com. I will choose a clip of a few seconds to add to the video anonymously and ask for your permission before updating the new video on the project website. You can subsequently ask me at any time to remove your extract from the video.
Do not hesitate to write to me if you have any questions or if you would like to be accompanied on Zoom to explore the experience free.
Thank you in advance if you feel the heart to participate.
Looking forward to seeing your video.
Courage to us for the future.
